Basic R425 qualifications (i.e. diploma/degree in nursing) or equivalent qualification that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council as a Professional Nurse with Midwifery. Current annual registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse (2026). A minimum of 9 years appropriate /recognisable experience in Nursing after registration as a Professional Nurse with SANC in General Nursing and Midwifery. At least 4 years of the period referred to must be appropriate/recognisable experience at the management level. Certificates of service or official letters of service from previous/current employers, signed and stamped by HR). Foreign qualified applicants must attach the evaluation certificate from the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) to their applications. Computer literacy, a valid driver’s license and Diploma in Nursing Administration will be an added advantage. Knowledge, Skills &Competencies: Knowledge and understanding of nursing care processes. and procedures, nursing statutes and other relevant legal/health-related Acts, regulations, guidelines and other related policies such as the Nursing Act, Code of Ethics. Professional Practice of the South African Nursing Council; Nursing Standards of Practice, Scope of Practice, Skills Development Act, Public Service Regulations, Labour Relations Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Patients’ Rights, Batho Pele Principles, Public Finance Management act. Mentorship and supervisory skills. Leadership, Management, Planning, Organizing, Problem Solving Skills and coordinating skills. Clinical competencies and policy formulation skills. Knowledge of nursing care delivery approaches. Good verbal and written communication skills. Conflict management/sound labour management skills. Knowledge and understanding of Human Resources and Financial practices.
Provide leadership and a strategic direction in the Nursing Component. Strategic leadership, delegate, supervise and coordinate the provision of effective and efficient patient care through adequate nursing care. To execute duties and functions with proficiency in support of aims and strategic objectives of the hospital and of Department of Health. To contribute toward the strategic planning process of the hospital. To represent Nursing Component in the Senior Management Team. To demonstrate hospital’s commitment to quality nursing care and ensure compliance with Office of Health Standard Compliance (OHSC), Ideal Hospital (IHRM) and clinical governance structures. Advocate and ensure the promotion of nursing ethos and professionalism. To manage and ensure efficient utilisation of allocated human resources, financial and non-financial resources (asset management and IT) within budgetary constraints. Ensure that budget spending is maximised in line with strategic objectives. Ensure proper implementation of the budget by monitoring, projecting and reporting expenditure. To assist the institution with audit preparedness and to implement and monitor audit findings. Deal with disciplinary and grievance matters. To ensure provision of effective infection control services in the hospital. To ensure participation in hospital quality assurance initiatives such as TWG, quality learning centers, patient experiences of care surveys. Monitoring and evaluation of patient care delivery in the hospital and meeting targets of all non-communicable and communicable disease, HAST, maternal, neonatal and child indicators (all health programmes). Initiate and participate in health promotion to ensure consistent communication of relevant, accurate and comprehensive information on health care. Development/establish and maintain constructive working relationships between nursing staff and other stakeholders (i.e. inter-professional, inter- sectoral and multidisciplinary teamwork.)
