Matric, qualification that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council as a Nursing Assistant or Enrolled Nursing Auxiliary. Grade 1: None after registration with the SANC in Nursing Assistant. Grade 2: A minimum of 10 years appropriate/recognisable experience after registration with the SANC as Nursing Assistant. Grade 3: A minimum of 20 years appropriate/recognisable experience after registration with the SANC as Nursing Assistant.
Good communication and interpersonal skills. Strong ability to work within a team. Ability to work independently, under pressure and meet deadlines. Be willing to travel extensively. Knowledge of treatment policies and guidelines. Excellent current clinical competencies and skills.
Assist patients with activities of daily living (Maintain hygiene of patient, provide nutrition and assist with mobility and elimination process). Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality and provide optimal patient care assistance with elimination processes. Provide elementary clinical nursing care. Measures, interprets and record vital signs. Operate all relevant apparatus and equipment. Assist professional nurses with clinical procedures (i.e. administering of oral medication). Escort patients for clinical investigation when required. Participate in infection prevention and control activities. Report and record patient incidents as per hospital protocols. Relieve in other wards when necessary. Maintain professional growth/ethical standards and self development. To maintain the code of conduct as required in the Public Service and by the South African Nursing Counsel. Must be willing to work day and night shifts.
