Engineering Manager (SIB)
One of our clients, a well-established organisation located inĀ Brakpan, is seeking an experiencedĀ Engineering Manager (SIB)Ā to oversee and manage engineering activities within a process plant environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable and efficient operation of engineering infrastructure and equipment, while providing strategic and technical leadership to the engineering function. The role requires a strong understanding of mining/process plant environments, engineering standards, maintenance practices and statutory compliance.
Minimum Requirements
Degree inĀ Electrical or Mechanical Engineering. GCC (Government Certificate of Competency)Ā Mines & WorksĀ is essential. Registration as aĀ Professional Engineer (Pr Eng)Ā or Professional Engineering Technologist (Pr Tech Eng) would be advantageous. MinimumĀ 8ā10 years' engineering experience, preferably within a mining, mineral processing or process plant environment. Proven experience in anĀ Engineering Manager / Engineering ManagementĀ capacity. Strong knowledge of mining and process plant engineering systems and equipment. Experience in managing engineering projects, maintenance and asset reliability. Sound knowledge of theĀ Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA)Ā and relevant regulations. Knowledge of engineering standards, legislation and statutory requirements. Strong leadership, people management and communication skills. Proven ability to manage contractors, service providers and multidisciplinary teams.
Roles and Responsibilities
Engineering Management
Provide strategic and technical leadership across the engineering function. Ensure the safe, reliable and efficient operation of plant and engineering infrastructure. Develop and implement engineering strategies aligned with operational and business objectives. Ensure compliance with all relevant engineering standards, legislation, policies and procedures. Maintain overall accountability for engineering governance and statutory compliance.
Maintenance & Asset Reliability
Oversee preventative, predictive and corrective maintenance programmes. Drive equipment reliability and plant availability through effective maintenance strategies. Monitor equipment performance and identify opportunities for improvement. Ensure that engineering breakdowns and technical issues are investigated and resolved effectively. Review maintenance performance, equipment reliability and engineering KPIs.
Projects / SIB
Manage and overseeĀ SIB (Stay-in-Business)Ā engineering projects and initiatives. Ensure projects are properly planned, resourced, budgeted and executed. Monitor project progress, costs, quality and compliance. Coordinate with relevant stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery. Identify opportunities to improve plant efficiency, reliability and operational performance.
Safety & Compliance
Promote a strong safety culture across all engineering activities. Ensure compliance with theĀ MHSA, applicable regulations and company safety standards. Conduct and review risk assessments and ensure appropriate controls are implemented. Ensure engineering equipment, installations and systems comply with statutory requirements. Participate in audits, inspections and incident investigations where required.
Financial & Resource Management
Develop and manage engineering budgets and expenditure. Monitor project and maintenance costs and implement cost-control measures. Ensure effective utilisation of engineering resources, equipment and contractors. Review and approve technical and engineering-related expenditure within delegated authority.
People Management
Lead, mentor and develop engineering personnel. Manage performance and ensure that employees have the necessary skills and competencies. Identify training and development requirements within the engineering team. Promote effective communication and collaboration between engineering, production and other departments.
Contractor & Stakeholder Management
Manage relationships with contractors, suppliers and service providers. Ensure contractors comply with site safety, quality and engineering requirements. Work closely with production and operational teams to align engineering activities with operational requirements. Provide technical guidance and support to senior management and relevant stakeholders.
