Internship Counselling Psychologist Opportunity at Rhodes University Student Counselling Centre


Employer: Rhodes University Division of Student Services and Development


The Division of Student Services and Development seeks to recruit a qualified and dedicated Intern Psychologist to join their team on a contract basis. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive counselling and psychological support to students.


Responsibilities: - Deliver psychotherapy (individual, mostly short-term) - Conduct couple therapy - Organize group therapy, specifically addressing student needs - Provide family interventions for student support - Deliver HIV pre- and post-test counselling - Respond to student and staff crisis situations - Conduct assessments, including psychological, career, and psycho-educational evaluations - Develop and facilitate training courses for staff and students - Create and distribute health and well-being information materials - Promote student health and well-being


Minimum Requirements: - Currently in the first year of a Masters Degree in Counselling Psychology at an accredited university - Registration as a Student Psychologist with HPCSA - Strong understanding of adolescent/early adulthood development - Evidence-based counselling and psychotherapeutic skills - Ethical and professional conduct - Excellent administrative and organizational abilities - Proficient computer literacy (word processing, spreadsheets, internet usage) - Strong interpersonal skills, building trust and maintaining confidentiality - Independent and team-oriented - Willingness to be available after-hours for crisis intervention (within 20 minutes of contact) - Live within 16km of the University


Application Process: Applicants must submit a comprehensive CV, letter of motivation, certified copy of registration as a current Masters in Counselling Psychology student, certified copy of registration as a current Student Psychologist with HPCSA, certified copies of undergraduate qualifications, and a certified copy of ID or passport via the university's website and online recruitment system. Selection Process: Short-listing meeting TBD. Candidates will undergo an assessment, presentation, and interview. Successful candidates will be notified of interview dates.
