My client, a fast growing manufacturing concern within the food industry is seeking to employ a Storeman. The ideal candidate will have Matric or equivalent qualification and previous experience in a warehouse, stores, logistics, or food manufacturing environment is advantageous. Willing to work flexible hours, overtime, weekends, or shifts when required.
The Storeman is responsible for the efficient receipt, storage, handling, issuing, and recording of raw materials, packaging materials, finished products, and other stock within the company’s warehouse and stores. The Storeman must ensure that all stock is handled safely and hygienically and that warehouse activities comply with company procedures, food safety standards, health and safety requirements, and stock-control processes
Key ResponsibilitiesReceiving and Checking Stock Receive deliveries of raw materials, ingredients, packaging materials, cleaning materials, and other goods. Check quantities, product descriptions, batch numbers, expiry dates, and delivery documentation against purchase orders or delivery notes. Inspect incoming stock for damage, contamination, incorrect labeling, or other quality concerns. Report discrepancies, damaged goods, or non-conforming materials to the relevant supervisor. Ensure that all received stock is correctly recorded and stored. Stock Storage and Control Store products and materials in the correct designated locations. Maintain accurate stock records and ensure stock movements are recorded promptly. Apply FIFO (First In, First Out) and FEFO (First Expired, First Out) principles where applicable. Monitor expiry dates and report stock approaching expiry. Conduct regular stock counts and assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual stock takes. Investigate and report stock variances. Keep storage areas clean, organised, secure, and free from unnecessary clutter. Food Safety and Hygiene Follow all company food safety, hygiene, HACCP, GMP, and allergen-control procedures. Ensure raw materials, packaging, and other products are stored in a manner that prevents contamination. Maintain appropriate temperature and storage conditions where required. Immediately report spills, pest activity, damaged packaging, contamination risks, or food safety concerns. Follow personal hygiene and protective clothing requirements when working in production or food-handling areas. Issuing and Distribution Pick and issue raw materials and packaging materials to the production department according to authorised requests or production schedules. Ensure the correct product, batch, quantity, and specification are issued. Record all stock issued accurately. Return unused materials to the appropriate storage location and update stock records. Assist with the movement of finished products from production to the finished-goods warehouse. Warehouse Operations Load and unload deliveries safely and efficiently. Operate warehouse equipment such as pallet jacks, trolleys, and forklifts where authorised and appropriately licensed. Ensure goods are stacked safely and stored according to company requirements. Maintain clear and safe access to aisles, emergency exits, fire equipment, and work areas. Assist with general warehouse housekeeping and cleaning duties. Documentation and Administration Complete receiving, issuing, stock-transfer, and dispatch documentation accurately. Maintain records of batch numbers, expiry dates, quantities, and stock movements. Assist with traceability requirements by ensuring stock movements can be tracked accurately. Report shortages, excess stock, damaged goods, and other discrepancies to management. Use stock-control systems, spreadsheets, or warehouse management systems as required. Health and Safety Comply with all occupational health and safety policies and procedures. Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE). Follow safe manual-handling and lifting procedures. Report unsafe conditions, accidents, injuries, and near misses immediately. Ensure warehouse equipment is used correctly and safely. Maintain a clean and hazard-free working environmentMinimum Requirements Grade 12 / Matric or equivalent / DiplomaPrevious experience in a warehouse, stores, logistics, or food manufacturing environment is advantageous. Basic computer and stock-control skills. Good understanding of stock rotation and inventory control. Ability to read and complete basic warehouse documentation. Good communication and organisational skills. Physically fit and able to perform manual handling and lifting dutiesForklift licence and experience would be an advantage. Knowledge and Skills Stock receiving and issuing procedures. Inventory control and stock counting. FIFO and FEFO principles. Basic food safety and hygiene practices.
