ROLE OVERVIEWThe Cook is responsible for planning, preparing, and serving nutritious, high-quality meals for the vessel’s crew while ensuring compliance with all food safety, hygiene, and health standards. The role involves maintaining a clean, safe, and well-organised galley, managing food supplies and inventory, and ensuring adequate provisioning for each voyage to support the wellbeing and operational needs of the crew.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIESMeal planning and preparationPreparing daily menus, accommodating dietary requirements and cooking meals as scheduled
Galley hygiene and safetyComplying with food safety and maritime regulations
Stock control and orderingMonitoring stock levels, rotating provisions and placing orders as required
Recordkeeping and reportingCompleting meal logs, stock records and maintaining cleaning schedules
Crew support and communicationCommunicating mealtimes and addressing requests or concerns
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS: Grade 10 or equivalent SAMSA Certificate of Proficiency: Efficient Cook Minimum 2 – 4 years’ experience preparing meals onboard on vessels Knowledge of hygiene and food safety standards relevant to vessels Knowledge and understanding of basic nutrition and portion control
