Position: Deckhand / Fisherman Employment Type: Full-time Company: West Tide Fishing (Pty) Ltd

West Tide Fishing (Pty) Ltd, a joint venture between the West Point Group of Companies and Impala Fishing (Pty) Ltd, operates within the South African Small Pelagic Fishery sector. We are looking to hire an experienced and qualified Deckhand / Fisherman for our newly constructed purse seiner, MFV West Tide. The chosen candidate will work with the crew to handle all deck and fishing activities, maintain fishing and vessel equipment, and aid in the vessel’s safe, efficient, and smooth operation. The individual will report directly to the Skipper and be an integral part of the vessel’s crew.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Safely manage, pull, and haul fishing nets onto the vessel. - Assist the crew in all fishing operations and related deck tasks. - Engage in the setting, hauling, and securing of fishing gear. - Help handle, maintain, and store ropes, wires, nets, and other fishing equipment. - Perform net mending and general maintenance of fishing gear. - Adhere to all vessel safety procedures and instructions. - Maintain cleanliness and order on deck and throughout the vessel. - Participate in routine cleaning, maintenance, and upkeep of the vessel and equipment. - Safely operate deck equipment, tools, and machinery as directed. - Comply with all applicable fishing quotas, laws, regulations, and environmental standards. - Report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, or incidents to the Skipper. - Participate in emergency, safety, and muster drills as required. - Perform any other reasonable duties related to the position and the safe operation of the vessel.
