This position is based at our manufacturing plant in Wadeville, Germiston, where innovation, operational excellence, and safety are at the heart of everything we do.
Purpose of the RoleThe purpose of this role is to assume statutory responsibility as the appointed Certificated Engineer in terms of the General Machinery Regulations, ensuring the safe, reliable and legally compliant operation of all plant machinery, equipment and engineering systems. The incumbent will lead engineering excellence across the manufacturing facility by driving equipment reliability, operational efficiency, preventative maintenance strategies, continuous improvement initiatives and compliance with all relevant occupational health, safety and engineering standards. The role is critical in supporting uninterrupted production, maximizing asset performance and maintaining world-class manufacturing standards at Bliss Brands' manufacturing plant in Wadeville, Germiston.
About the RoleReporting to senior management, the Certificated Engineer (Factories) will be responsible for overseeing the safe operation, maintenance, reliability, and optimal performance of plant machinery, equipment, and electrical and mechanical systems. The successful candidate will ensure full compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and General Machinery Regulations while driving continuous improvement in plant performance Key ResponsibilitiesEnsure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, General Machinery Regulations, and all applicable legal requirements. Oversee the safe operation, inspection, maintenance, and reliability of factory machinery and equipment. Plan and implement preventative, predictive, and routine maintenance programmes. Support Production Managers in achieving optimal equipment efficiency and uptime. Monitor and maintain mechanical systems, including pumps, compressors, conveyors, HVAC systems, boilers, heat exchangers, and chillers. Ensure reliability and compliance of electrical infrastructure, including switchgear, transformers, MCCs, generators, UPS systems, PLCs, VSDs, and automation equipment. Lead commissioning, installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance activities. Conduct risk assessments, incident investigations, and safety improvement initiatives. Analyse machine performance, downtime, and maintenance data, providing recommendations for continuous improvement. Prepare management reports on equipment performance and plant reliability. Provide technical guidance and training to maintenance and operational teams. Minimum RequirementsEssential QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering. Government Certificate of Competency (GCC) as:Mechanical Engineer (Factories), orElectrical Engineer (Factories).3 to 4 years' relevant practical experience, including at least 2 years' post-qualification experience within a reputable FMCG manufacturing environment. Preferred Experience and SkillsStrong experience in factory machinery, utilities, hydraulics, and plant equipment maintenance. In-depth knowledge of FMCG manufacturing processes and engineering systems. Experience with statutory inspections, regulatory audits, and compliance requirements. Excellent troubleshooting skills across mechanical, electrical, and PLC-controlled systems. Knowledge of CAD software, engineering design, and component selection. Strong analytical, planning, organisational, and problem-solving abilities. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Visio, and AutoCAD. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
