**Job Summary**
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Medical Specialist in Anaesthesiology to lead our Clinical Unit as Head of Clinical Unit (Medical). The successful candidate will be responsible for providing operational, academic, and clinical leadership within the Anaesthesiology unit and academic platforms. This joint appointment between the Anaesthesiology department at Kalafong Provincial Tertiary Hospital and the University of Pretoria offers an exciting opportunity to shape the future of anaesthesiology in South Africa.
**Requirements**
To be considered for this position, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- A Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) degree or an equivalent qualification that allows registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as a Medical Specialist in Anaesthesiology. * A minimum of three years' experience as a Medical Specialist after registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Specialist. * Proof of current registration with the HPCSA (2026/2027). * A valid driver's license. * Extensive experience in all aspects of anaesthesiology, including clinical care, teaching (undergraduate and postgraduate), and research. * Demonstrated good professional standing, such as membership in professional organisations (excluding HPCSA). * Proven management ability, sound verbal and written communication skills, leadership skills, good decision-making, and interpersonal skills.
**Duties and Responsibilities**
The successful candidate will be responsible for
- Providing strategic leadership and creating a social compact for better health outcomes within the Anaesthesiology unit and academic platforms. * Ensuring high-quality, safe, evidence-based anaesthetic care and supporting perioperative services in compliance with national standards and institutional protocols. * Strengthening good financial management within the unit to ensure sustainable delivery of health services. * Supporting the recruitment of human resources to build a strategic and committed workforce that can meet essential service demands, enhance teaching and training. * Strengthening information management to optimise performance and support decision-making and research. * Coordinating and supporting teaching and training for both undergraduate and postgraduate students, medical interns, and medical officers. * Contributing to departmental research. * Providing compulsory commuted overtime, ICU coverage, and other service responsibilities as required.
