A long-established global transport, logistics and supply chain organisation is seeking an experienced HR Officer to provide a comprehensive, on-site human resources service to its inland warehousing and road transport operations. The position covers the full HR lifecycle, including HR and payroll administration, recruitment and selection, training and development, performance management, talent and change management, benefits administration and employee relations. The successful candidate will also provide labour relations guidance, support disciplinary processes and represent the organisation at the CCMA and NBCRFLI.


Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree or National Diploma in Industrial Psychology or Human Resources Management. Minimum 5–7 years’ full-function HR experience within a similar environment, gained at junior to mid-management level. Demonstrable HR specialist expertise, junior management capability and a proven track record in labour relations. Knowledge of HR administration, recruitment and selection, training and development, performance management, talent and change management, and employee relations, including CCMA and NBCRFLI representation. Sound theoretical and practical knowledge of applicable HR legislation, particularly the Labour Relations Act. Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office. Experience with SAGE People/SAGE 300 People and other HRIS platforms would be advantageous. Knowledge of ReMeasure job grading, LexisNexis background and reference checks, Graylink e-Recruitment and in-house performance management systems. Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal, consultation, facilitation and presentation skills. Ability to interact confidently with employees and management at all levels and to influence, persuade and command respect. Strong mediation, negotiation, problem-solving, conflict-management, analytical and decision-making abilities. Independent self-starter with sound judgement, strong self-management, high energy levels and personal drive. Conceptual and strategic thinker who can manage HR projects and initiatives, collaborate with Human Capital professionals in other regions and adapt to changing circumstances. Ability to achieve results by working with and through people. Valid and unendorsed Code B driver’s licence.


Duties and Responsibilities

Manage recruitment and selection by advertising vacancies on the organisation’s careers page, screening candidates, preparing longlists, arranging interviews and recommending suitable candidates to management. Conduct criminal, identity and qualification checks and ensure that new employees receive and complete the required starter packs. Create new roles and employee profiles on SAGE, capture employee information, upload supporting documentation and meet monthly payroll deadlines. Ensure that all HR documentation is correctly completed, signed, returned and filed, and that every new employee has a personnel file. Assist with Employment Equity requirements, analyse and report on exit interview questionnaires, participate actively in the Employment Equity and Training Committee and review allocated HR policies annually. Administer retirement fund and medical aid documentation, ensuring that it is correctly completed, submitted to payroll and retained for recordkeeping. Advise employees and management on industrial relations matters, including corrective action, disciplinary processes and appropriate disciplinary charges. Identify and escalate workplace concerns or conflicts and ensure compliance with the organisation’s Industrial Relations Policy. Attend and provide guidance and support during disciplinary, appeal and grievance hearings. Remain informed of legislative changes, new labour relations developments and relevant case law. Represent the organisation at the CCMA and/or NBCRFLI in mediation and arbitration proceedings. Assist with labour-related matters involving Sections 197 and 189. Prepare monthly reports on new appointments, terminations, promotions and vacancies. Monitor labour-broker appointments to minimise compliance and organisational risk.
