We are seeking a skilled and experienced Locum Doctor to join our dedicated team at the Faircape Health Institute Tokai Estate. This sub-acute care and rehabilitation center specializes in providing restorative care for patients recovering from acute hospitalization, surgery, neurological conditions, orthopaedic procedures, and other medically complex situations. As part of our growing multidisciplinary healthcare team, you will play a vital role in ensuring patient medical stability, rehabilitation progression, and their successful transition from hospital to home.
Key Duties and Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive medical assessments upon admission, including physical examinations, reviewing medical history, and interpreting diagnostic results to inform patient care planning. Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, including medication management and rehabilitative interventions aimed at improving patient outcomes. Collaborate with the multidisciplinary healthcare team to maintain continuity and coordination of patient care. Monitor patient progress, evaluate treatment effectiveness, and adjust care plans as necessary. Communicate clearly with patients and their families, providing education on medical conditions, treatment plans, and self-care strategies. Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records on the Healthware electronic medical platform, including progress notes and discharge summaries. Participate in quality improvement initiatives, including protocol development and the implementation of best practices in sub-acute care. Provide urgent/emergency telephonic medical support to nursing staff when required to stabilize patients and prevent deterioration.
Requirements Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) Minimum of 3 years experience post-community service Experience in internal medicine, family medicine, geriatrics, or palliative care is advantageous Experience working within a multidisciplinary and nursing team environment Strong medical expertise and evidence-based clinical decision-making Excellent critical thinking and clinical judgement Commitment to ethical practice and patient confidentiality Strong team collaboration skills High attention to detail in clinical documentation Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Ability to manage clinical emergencies calmly and effectively
Specific Requirements Clear health, criminal, and credit record Two written references Valid Medical Practitioner's Services (MPS) and medical indemnity insurance Active HPCSA (Health Professions Council of South Africa) registration
Benefits & Working Hours Guaranteed weekend shifts, offering consistent and predictable locum work Weekends: 08:00 until patient rounds are completed (between 12:00 and 13:00) Urgent/emergency telephonic support required only when clinically necessary Weekdays, when applicable: An hourly rate of R575.00 Weekends: A daily on-call rate of R1264.00 for Saturday and R1900.00 for Sunday, plus an additional fee of R190.00 per patient
