Main Role

The Retail Accounting Manager oversees accurate and timely reconciliation of point-of-sale (POS) transactions across all retail locations. This involves validating all payment methods (cash, card, digital wallets), identifying and resolving discrepancies, and ensuring precise financial reporting. The role also provides operational teams with timely feedback, trend analysis, and compliance support with company policies.

Key Responsibilities

POS RECONCILIATION

Daily reconciliation of POS transactions from all retail outlets. Validation of all tender types (cash, card, vouchers, digital payments). Identification, investigation, and resolution of POS variances. Collaboration with store managers to address discrepancies. Monitoring of banking and cash-up processes for accuracy. Preparation of weekly and monthly POS reconciliation reports. Highlighting recurring issues and proposing corrective actions.

REPORTING & ANALYSIS

Generation of accurate daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliation reports. Analysis of POS trends and identification of anomalies. Reporting unresolved issues to the Group Accounting Manager. Maintenance of audit-ready documentation and reconciliations.

PROCESS IMPROVEMENT & COMPLIANCE

Review and enhancement of POS reconciliation processes. Ensuring compliance with finance and audit policies. Supporting system enhancements related to POS and reconciliation tools. Assisting in training store teams on best practices.

Minimum Requirements

Education: Certificate or Diploma in Bookkeeping, Accounting, Finance, or a related field (advantageous) Basic understanding of accounting principles including reconciliations, general ledger postings, and controls.

Experience

Minimum 2 years’ practical finance experience with demonstrable exposure to: POS, cash, card, and electronic payment reconciliations. High-volume transactional environments. Identifying, investigating, and resolving reconciliation variances. Preparing daily, weekly, or monthly reconciliation reports. Experience working on an accounting system or ERP in a retail or operational finance context. Collaborative experience with store operations or non-finance stakeholders.

Industry Knowledge

Working knowledge of retail point-of-sale environments including cash-up procedures, multiple tender types (cash, card, vouchers, digital wallets), and basic financial controls and audit expectations. Familiarity with retail banking and settlement cycles at a practical level.
