Duties/Pligte     Â
Teaching and contributing to curriculum development within the undergraduate Civil Engineering programme.  Teaching will focus on both Pavement Engineering as well other areas of  the Department aligned with the incumbent's expertise and departmental needs. Establishing and maintaining an active research programme in Pavement Engineering through publication in peer-reviewed journals, securing external research funding, and contributing to the national and international research profile of the Department. Supervising and mentoring postgraduate students and contributing to the continued growth and development of the Department's postgraduate programme. Performing academic leadership, administration, and service activities within the Department, Faculty, University, and the engineering profession. Contributing to collaborative research, industry engagement, consulting activities, continuing professional development (CPD), and technology transfer initiatives. Supporting the development, utilisation, and continuous improvement of the Pavement and Geotechnical Research Laboratory (PGRL), including laboratory-based research, specialist testing services, and the supervision of laboratory-based postgraduate research.
Job Requirements/Pos Vereistes     Â
An applicable BEng or BScEng degree in Civil Engineering from a reputable university, enabling registration as a Professional Engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA). A background in Roads/Civil Engineering, with a doctorate degree in a relevant engineering field or an MEng/MSc degree combined with a minimum of three years' industry experience, with a focus on pavement engineering. Expertise in the field of pavement engineering, with expertise in recognised areas of pavement engineering, including pavement design, construction, materials, monitoring and performance, maintenance and rehabilitation, infrastructure asset management. An excellent academic study record. The ability to supervise and mentor postgraduate students, or the potential to develop this capability. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. The ability to work effectively within diverse, multilingual and multicultural teams.

Expertise in the field of pavement engineering, with expertise in recognised areas of pavement engineering, including pavement design, construction, materials, monitoring and performance, maintenance and rehabilitation, infrastructure asset management. An excellent academic study record. A record of successful supervision of postgraduate students. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. The ability to work effectively within diverse, multilingual and multicultural teams.
Recommendation/Aanbeveling     Â
Experience in laboratory-based research, specialist testing, or laboratory development related to pavement engineering. Familiarity with pavement engineering software, numerical modelling, analytical, and/or data analysis tools relevant to pavement engineering. Registration as a candidate or professional engineer with ECSA. A high level of independence and self-motivation.
