Our client, a leading commercial insurance specialist, is seeking a Takaful Portfolio Manager to manage and grow a portfolio of brokers while driving profitable business growth within its specialist insurance division. This is an exciting opportunity for a commercially minded insurance professional who enjoys building strong broker relationships, identifying new business opportunities, and delivering sustainable portfolio performance in a highly collaborative environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop and implement a strategic business plan for your allocated broker portfolio. Drive portfolio growth through new business acquisition and the expansion of existing broker relationships. Manage and grow broker and binder portfolios to achieve Gross Written Contribution (GWC), profitability, retention, and growth targets. Build long-term relationships with brokers through regular engagement and value-added service. Analyse portfolio performance, market trends, and broker opportunities to improve business outcomes. Deliver exceptional broker service while providing tailored insurance solutions. Ensure underwriting decisions align with delegated authority, governance requirements, and underwriting guidelines. Monitor portfolio profitability and implement corrective actions to achieve targeted loss ratios. Ensure compliance with underwriting standards, operational procedures, governance controls, and Takaful principles. Collaborate with underwriting, claims, operations, and internal stakeholders to ensure seamless service delivery. Contribute to strategic initiatives that strengthen market presence and portfolio performance.
Minimum Requirements
Grade 12 (Matric). RE5 qualification is essential. RE1 will be advantageous. Insurance or technical qualification will be advantageous. Formal Business qualification will be advantageous. Minimum 5 years' experience within the insurance industry across Commercial and Personal Lines. Proven business development and/or portfolio management experience. Experience working with insurance brokerages will be highly advantageous. Valid driver's licence and own reliable vehicle. Willingness to travel as required.
Highly Advantageous
Strong understanding of the South African insurance market. Sound knowledge of underwriting principles and portfolio management. Knowledge of insurance legislation and regulatory requirements. Experience managing profitable broker portfolios. Strong commercial and business development capability.
