Vacancy Details The Optenhorst store of Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking a Dispensary Support to join their team. The primary role of this position is to train learners in the basic pharmacist assistant course, which will provide them with the necessary skills to understand the pharmaceutical environment and dispensing, while emphasizing the importance of quality in job learning. This role is fixed-term until the learner becomes registered with the SAPC as a basic pharmacist assistant. Permanent employment will be offered upon successful qualification.
Requirements Essential: - Grade 12 – Matric or Senior Certificate with Pure Mathematics 50%, Life Science and/or Physical Science, and an average of 50% or higher - Completion of a proficiency test to apply for registration with the Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as a learner basic assistant
Job Specification: A Dispensary Support staff member must be able to perform the following tasks under the direct supervision of a pharmacist in a pharmacy: - Sell Schedule 1 medicines or scheduled substances - Assist with the compounding, manipulation, or preparation of non-sterile medicine or scheduled substances according to a formula and Standard Operating Procedures approved by the responsible pharmacist - Unpack and merchandize stock and clean dispensary and OTC shelves, as approved by the responsible pharmacist - Perform any other duties assigned by the Dispensary Manager - Accurately interpret scripts and act professionally and responsibly within legal requirements, in accordance with the South African Pharmaceutical Council - Ensure accurate picking, packing, labeling, and checking of medication, being aware of common dosages and important drug interactions - Ensure all medications are checked for accuracy by a pharmacist and signed by a pharmacist - Assist in the control of stock (maintaining cleanliness and organization of shelves and medicine expiry dates) of Schedule 1 to Schedule 5 medicines or scheduled substances - Follow up with patients regarding script tracking reports as requested by the dispensary manager and follow-up appointments - Assist with call center scripts and patient service telephone calls - Provide information to promote health - Assist with scheme authorization of chronic, HIV and AIDS, and oncology medication - Report on low/out-of-stock levels and stock errors to the dispensary manager - Receive dispensary stock in accordance with the company's Standard Operating Procedures
Competencies Essential: - English and a second language – read, write, and speak - Time management, deadline driven, able to handle pressure, attention to detail - Good communication skills, active listening, customer service/focus, problem-solving, team player, conflict management, leading by example, accountability, professional conduct, trustworthy, and honest - Computer, numerical skills
Advantageous: - Retail FMCG experience, Dis-Chem front shop experience, and a good performance record - Knowledge of drug and family planning and complementary medicine - Experience with 3rd Unisolv, SAP, and E-Scripting
Special Conditions of Employment: - Must be a South African citizen - Must pass a proficiency test to register with the Pharmacy Council (SAPC) - Must have a clear criminal and credit history
