CONTEXT

Our client is a premier technology consultancy that delivers expert developers to top banking, financial services, and tech organizations throughout South Africa. They are looking for a Go Developer to join a backend engineering team tasked with creating, developing, and maintaining cutting-edge, high-performance services, APIs, and microservices. This position is ideal for a developer who produces clean, efficient, and reliable code, possesses a solid understanding of distributed systems, and is adept at working within cloud-native, containerized environments.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop, design, and maintain backend services and microservices utilizing Go (Golang). Construct and integrate RESTful and gRPC APIs with both internal and third-party systems. Manage relational and NoSQL databases, designing data models and crafting efficient queries. Construct services that are robust under high load, leveraging Go's concurrency features (goroutines and channels) to the fullest. Containerize and deploy services using Docker and Kubernetes on a cloud platform. Produce clean, tested, and well-documented code, and actively participate in code reviews. Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and production support. Collaborate with product owners, architects, testers, and other developers in an Agile team setting. At the Senior level, provide guidance and mentorship to intermediate developers and contribute to technical design and architecture decisions.

QUALIFICATIONS

Intermediate: approximately 3 to 5 years of commercial software development experience, with significant hands-on experience in Go. Senior: 5+ years, with robust production Go experience. Extensive experience in building backend services, REST APIs, and microservices using Go. A good grasp of concurrency, distributed systems, and performance optimization. Prior experience with gRPC, message queues, or event streaming platforms like Kafka is advantageous. Experience with relational databases (such as PostgreSQL or MySQL) and ideally a NoSQL database (such as MongoDB or Redis). Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and a cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP). Familiarity with Git, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and Agile methodologies. Experience in the banking, payments, or financial services sector is advantageous. A relevant degree or diploma in Computer Science, IT, or a related field is advantageous.
