Job Summary
The Store Clerk position involves the accurate and efficient management of customer transactions. Duties include processing payments, handling cash, greeting customers, and providing correct receipts and change. The ideal candidate will maintain a tidy checkout area and support general store operations, including shelving merchandise, pricing items, and conducting inventory counts.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Pack, box, and wrap merchandise for shipping - Calculate and record all customer transactions - Count money in cash drawers at the start of shifts to ensure accuracy and proper change availability - Sort, count, and wrap notes and coins - Establish or identify prices of goods and tally bills using calculators, cash registers, or optical scanners - Welcome customers as they enter the establishment - Issue receipts, refunds, credits, or provide change to customers - Maintain periodic balance sheets of transaction amounts and counts - Accept payments by cash or card - Keep checkout areas clean and orderly - Stock shelves and price items - Conduct stock takes
Qualifications and Skills
- Matric / Grade 12 - Proficient in computer use - Previous cashier experience preferred - Familiarity with handling money - Excellent customer service skills - Strong interpersonal abilities - Trilingual in Afrikaans, English, and Zulu (advantageous)
