Requirements
A Grade 12 or equivalent qualification with no prior experience is required. Candidates should hold an Appropriate Trade Test Certificate (Fitter). Alternatively, applicants must possess a complete apprenticeship along with proof of passing a trade test in line with the Section 13(2)(h) of the 1981 Manpower Act as amended or a certificate issued under provisions of Section 28 or 30 of the Manpower Act, 1981, or issued under the repealed Section 27 of the Act.
Knowledge and Skills
Candidates must be familiar with the Occupational Health & Safety Act, 1993 (Act No. 85 of 1993) (OHS Act). Proficiency in computer literacy is necessary. Excellent time management skills, along with strong communication (both written and verbal) and good interpersonal skills with colleagues and other departments, are essential. Report writing skills are also required.
Duties
- Produce designs in accordance with client specifications and within the bounds of production capabilities. - Create objects using specified materials and equipment, adhering to recognized standards and job specifications. - Ensure the quality assurance of produced items and inspect equipment and facilities for technical faults. - Repair equipment and facility defects in accordance with established standards. - Test and repair equipment and machinery within the facility based on specifications. - Service equipment and machinery according to the maintenance plan schedule and quality assure the serviced and maintained equipment. - Compile and submit reports. Provide inputs to the operational plan. - Maintain and keep job records/register, supervise and mentor staff. - Engage in continuous individual development to stay updated with new technologies and procedures.
