ENVIRONMENT
A leading company specializing in top-tier Cloud Solutions seeks a Junior VoIP Engineer to bolster and oversee its VoIP infrastructure. This position involves working closely with Senior Engineers to identify and resolve faults, manage SIP trunks, and ensure the stability of voice services for clients, while simultaneously advancing your expertise in a high-quality voice environment. Candidates must possess a Matric/Grade 12 qualification, a Certificate/Diploma in IT, Telecommunications, or Networking, or equivalent practical experience.
You will also need a thorough understanding of SIP and SIP trunking, Networking Fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, VLANs, NAT, firewalls), as well as strong troubleshooting skills and a systematic approach to fault resolution.
DUTIES
- Support and monitor the VoIP platform. - Configure, test, and troubleshoot SIP trunks and call routing. - Diagnose issues related to call quality, registration, and connectivity. - Utilize network fundamentals such as IP addressing, VLANs, routing, and firewalls to isolate voice faults. - Log, track, and resolve support tickets, escalating complex faults to Senior Engineers. - Assist with customer onboarding, number provisioning, and configuration changes. - Maintain accurate documentation and ticket records.
REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications
- Matric/Grade 12. - Diploma or Certificate in IT, Telecommunications, or Networking (or equivalent hands-on experience).
Experience/Skills
- Solid understanding of SIP and SIP trunking. - Understanding of Networking Fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, VLANs, NAT, firewalls). - Good troubleshooting skills and a methodical approach to faults.
Advantageous
- Entry-level Networking or Telecoms Certification (e.g. CCNA, Network+). - Exposure to VoIP platforms such as Asterisk, FreeSWITCH, Kamailio, or similar. - Experience reading packet captures (Wireshark, sngrep). - Familiarity with Linux. - Previous experience in a Helpdesk, NOC, or Telecoms support role.
