About the Role
We are looking for a meticulous, customer-focused, and detail-oriented Retail Associate to join our retail team. As the key representative at our checkout counters, your duties will involve processing transactions with precision and upholding store security protocols. During periods of low transaction volume, you will also provide essential support in credit, cellular, and ancillary service management.
Key Responsibilities
1. Transaction Processing & Cash Management
- Process all retail transactions at the point of sale accurately and ensure cash ups align with company policies and procedures. - Convert manual invoices to electronic format within 24 hours and attach the electronic invoices to the corresponding manual copies. - Drive add-on sales initiatives to boost revenue on every customer purchase. - Manage and update TV licence registers, processing all related sales in accordance with company regulations. - Balance cash registers and floats against system totals under supervision, ensuring seals are checked and secured at the end of shifts.
2. Operational Support & Security
- Maintain till points and workstations in a secure and clean state, ready for customer service. - Secure till points when not in use and update till passwords weekly. - Deactivate merchandise tags post-checkout and verify credit/debit card usage with UV light checks. - Conduct credit card security checks, verify item counts against invoice totals, and report any suspicious activities to management and security. - Answer incoming calls promptly using company-standard greetings, taking accurate messages, and transferring calls appropriately.
3. Customer Service
- Deliver outstanding customer service in line with company service standards. - Address customer complaints promptly and escalate to line management when necessary. - Adhere to all consumer protection and retail legislation.
- Cellular, Credit & Value-Added Services (Ancillary)
- Assist customers in completing credit and cellular application forms and verify documentation as per policy. - Scan and submit completed credit/cellular agreements, providing customers with copies. - Drive sales for cellular, credit, and lay-by services to meet monthly targets. - Offer additional services such as extended warranties and insurance products.
- Customer Repairs Co-ordination (Ancillary)
- Receive, log, and dispatch customer repair items to authorized repair agents/vendors per service level agreements (SLAs). - Communicate estimated repair turnaround times to customers and follow up on repairs pending over 7 days. - Ensure repair stock is safely stored in designated secure areas to minimize damages or distressed stock write-offs.
Requirements & Qualifications
Education: Grade 12 / Matric certificate.
Experience: 2–3 years of retail experience.
Financial/Admin Experience: Practical experience in financial administration or cash handling roles.
Technical Skills: Basic computer literacy (MS Word, MS Excel). SAP experience is advantageous.
Knowledge: Sound understanding of financial compliance legislation, supplier warranty procedures, and store repair agreements.
