Dis-Chem Pharmacies Limited seeks a Casual Cashier for their Rynfield establishment. The company aims to cultivate a strategic talent pool, pre-screening individuals who possess the essential skills, qualifications, and attributes required for potential future roles within the organization.

Purpose of the Role: The primary function of a Casual Cashier is to deliver exceptional customer service at the point of sale, ensuring a premium shopping experience for all patrons. This role involves accurately recording customer transactions on the Dis-Chem operating system, adhering strictly to company policies and standard operating procedures, and maintaining a zero-tolerance stance towards inaccuracies and fraud risks.

Essential Requirements: Candidates must possess a Grade 12 or Matric qualification, and demonstrate at least six months of cashier/till operation experience. Proficiency in computer usage, specifically MS Office, is crucial. Candidates should exhibit strong numerical skills, fluent English language proficiency, basic customer service abilities, and adaptability to work retail hours.

Job Description: A Casual Cashier is expected to uphold Dis-Chem’s customer service policies and procedures, fostering a positive rapport with customers. Reporting of customer complaints and compliments to the Frontline Supervisor or store management is a key responsibility. Adherence to the customer turnover rate, awareness of current sales and promotions, and ensuring colleagues and customers are not exposed to any risk are other critical duties.

The cashier is also responsible for implementing Dis-Chem's 5-star communication principles, managing cash flow, approving and signing off on line voids and price changes, exchanging merchandise and accepting returns when authorized to do so.

All purchases must be transacted, receiving and processing payments, including those made via bank cards, vouchers, coupons, other forms of payments, and loyalty cards from Dis-Chem’s accelerator partners.

Special Responsibilities: Ensuring all line voids and price changes are approved and signed off by the supervisor, exchanging merchandise and accepting returned goods when authorized to do so, transacting all purchases, receiving and processing all payments, and processing loyalty cards are all part of the cashier's responsibilities.

Security and Confidentiality: The cashier must ensure that cash is placed in the drop safe according to Dis-Chem's Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and the usage of their code and password is restricted to them, kept secure, and changed regularly. All outgoing stock, items, and scripts must be scanned and paid for. Confidentiality of daily takings is mandatory, with discussions restricted to management only.

Competencies: Essential competencies include in-depth knowledge of operating cash registers and maintaining cash drawers, processing sales, refunds, and payments, strong command of English (both written and oral), accuracy, attention to detail, presentability, emotional intelligence, social awareness, accountability, problem-solving, and basic report analysis. Trustworthiness and honesty, along with effective time management, are advantageous traits.

Special Conditions of Employment: Candidates must be willing and able to work retail hours, possess reliable transport or reside near the store, be a South African citizen, have a clear credit and criminal record.
