Responsibilities

• Implement, uphold, and oversee occupational health and safety policies and procedures across construction projects. - Conduct regular site inspections, safety audits, and risk assessments to pinpoint potential hazards. - Ensure adherence to relevant South African occupational health and safety legislation and construction regulations. - Oversee safe working practices related to concrete construction, structural steel erection, fabrication, and other building activities. - Prepare, review, and maintain safety files, risk assessments, method statements, and other crucial safety documentation. - Lead toolbox talks, safety inductions, and employee safety training. - Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, proposing preventative and corrective measures. - Monitor the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and enforce site safety standards. - Collaborate with project managers, contractors, supervisors, and site teams to cultivate a robust safety culture. - Track corrective actions and ensure that identified risks are promptly addressed. - Support health and safety compliance across projects, including possible assignments elsewhere in Africa.

Requirements

• Matric certificate. - SAMTRAC qualification. - SACPCMP registration or an equivalent recognized registration as a Construction Health and Safety Officer. - Mid-level experience in construction health and safety. - Proven experience in both concrete construction and structural steel engineering environments is required. - Strong knowledge of construction safety legislation, risk assessments, site inspections, and incident reporting. - Experience conducting safety audits, toolbox talks, and safety inductions. - Excellent communication, organizational, and documentation skills. - Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with project teams. - Willingness to travel within Africa as needed.
