We invite applications for a 6-month contract position as a DIESEL MECHANIC at I&J Aquaculture in Gansbaai. The role involves the maintenance and repair of vehicles, tractors, and diesel generators, including major service and preventative/reactive maintenance tasks.

Reporting Structure

Reports To: Mechanical Manager Direct Reports: 2

Key Responsibilities

Maintain tractors, trailers, and other transport equipment, ensuring they are in good working condition and adhere to minimum stockholding standards. Complete weekly checklists for all farm vehicles and ensure they remain roadworthy. Perform repairs and maintenance on seaweed ponds, including gearboxes, paddles, and screens, to ensure a continuous supply of high-quality seaweed. Assist the technical department with daily repairs and upgrades to plant and equipment, including screen repairs on suction cages and fabrication of stainless-steel tables for the packing and grading department to meet HACCP standards. Support the technical team with maintenance and repairs on pumps, drum filters, and blowers. Conduct major services on diesel generators and compile maintenance reports. Handle general breakdowns and daily preventative maintenance. Fulfill critical night shift duties on the farm and provide grading machine maintenance and breakdown assistance as required.

Qualifications

Minimum of 5-7 years of experience working with industrial and agricultural equipment. Proficient in welding, general fabrication, basic fitting, turning, and boiler making. Completion of the Diesel Mechanic Red Seal Trade Test is mandatory. Understanding and application of relevant Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) regulations. Strong computer skills.
