Position: Milling Machine Operator / Fitter & Turner - Cape Town Contract Duration: Immediate Salary Range: R16k to R20k, based on qualifications, practical milling experience, and demonstrated competency.

We are looking for an experienced Fitter & Turner / Machine Operator with significant conventional milling experience. This role may begin as a temporary contract position, but the ideal candidate should quickly become proficient in our milling operations with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely operate and independently set up conventional milling machines. - Read and interpret engineering drawings, job specifications, dimensions, and tolerances. - Choose and configure the right cutting tools, speeds, feeds, and work-holding methods. - Accurately manufacture and repair industrial cutting tools and components to specified dimensions and tolerances. - Measure and inspect your work using precise measuring tools like verniers and micrometres. - Identify and address machining issues, poor finishes, dimensional deviations, and other defects. - Ensure that work is verified before moving on to the next production phase. - Operate within allocated production times and priorities efficiently. - Conduct basic machine checks, including cleaning, lubrication, and routine maintenance. - Report abnormal machine operations and assist with troubleshooting as necessary. - Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workstation in line with 5S and SHE standards. - Assist with turning, drilling, tapping, countersinking, and other machining operations as required within your demonstrated competency. - Help with other production tasks as reasonably required.

Essential Requirements

• Minimum of 5+ years of practical conventional milling experience (non-negotiable). - Experience independently setting up and operating milling machines. - Proficiency in reading engineering drawings, dimensions, and tolerances. - Sound knowledge of machining principles, including cutting tools, feeds, speeds, and work holding. - Competence in using precision measuring equipment. - Ability to inspect and take responsibility for the quality of your own work. - Good mechanical aptitude and practical problem-solving skills. - Ability to work safely and independently in a manufacturing/workshop environment. - Immediate or very short-notice availability.

Advantageous

• Qualified Fitter & Turner, Toolmaker, or relevant trade qualification. - Experience in conventional machining without a formal trade qualification. - Experience operating conventional lathes, drilling machines, and other general machine-shop equipment. - Experience with machinery maintenance, preventative maintenance, or mechanical fault-finding.
