Position: Lead Solar Installation Electrician

Are you adept at leading a solar installation crew and ensuring systems transition seamlessly from approved designs to successful testing and commissioning? Our client requires a hands-on electrician proficient in both roof-mounted and ground-mounted PV installations, with a strong emphasis on safe and meticulous work.

Application Essentials to Review

• Matric and QCTO Red Seal Electrician qualification - Wireman’s License - Hands-on experience with solar installation, including roof and ground mounts - Experience with micro and string inverters, and system monitoring setup - Proficiency in reading electrical drawings and leading assistants on-site - Computer skills, including MS Office and advanced Excel

Role Overview

You will collaborate with the Project Supervisor and engineering team to install PV systems following approved designs. This involves assembling racking, sealing roof penetrations, installing system components, configuring monitoring, and commissioning installations. Additionally, you will:

• Diagnose faults - Conduct basic inverter testing and firmware updates - Maintain thorough installation and maintenance records

You will oversee crew performance, ensure safety and quality standards, and confirm compliance with SANS standards and project specifications. You will also manage material and cost tracking, identify and mitigate early risks, coordinate equipment and repairs, and keep clients informed. Projects must be completed on time and within budget.

Preferred Qualifications

• National Diploma in Electrical or Electronic Engineering (NQF 6) - AREP or SAPVIA PV Green Card certification - Experience on large industrial or IPP solar projects - ERP or Manufacturing Execution System (MES) experience - Inverter testing experience involving UPS or rectifiers, or PCB replacement
