The Centre for Innovation in Learning and Teaching (CILT), located in the Centre for Higher Education Development (CHED), invites applications from skilled and passionate software developers for this permanent position:
REQUIREMENTS FOR THE JOBNQF 7 qualification in a relevant discipline (Computer Science or Information Systems) and 6 years’ professional experience in software development, OR a relevant NQF8 qualification plus 3 years’ professional experience in software development. Experience in developing, maintaining, and supporting web-based applications, with a strong focus on systems integration, API development, expansion and integration of third-party services, and related technologies. Demonstrated competence in client-side web development using HTML, CSS and JavaScript and strong server-side development experience using languages such as Java and Python including experience working with XML, JSON, RESTful APIs, and relational databases. Understanding of software development practices including version control, testing methodologies, debugging, and secure application development principles. Demonstrated problem-solving skills and ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative development environment. Competent oral and written professional communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for stakeholders. Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders.
THE FOLLOWING WILL BE ADVANTAGEOUSSupporting online learning environments in a Higher Education context. Experience using AI-supported coding and software development tools to improve development quality, productivity, testing, code review processes, and delivery speed. eLearning experience in another context. Experience with audio and video technologies and Lecture Capture systems.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO: Developing, customising and supporting:
Integrations between PeopleSoft and Amathuba (D2L Brightspace). Opencast Lecture Capture system Monitoring and reporting services Other eLearning tools hosted by CILT.
