We are on the lookout for an experienced and driven procurement specialist within the mining industry.
Experience: The ideal candidate should possess a minimum of three to five (3-5) years of experience in procurement or buying roles. Prior experience in the mining sector is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities
Procurement and Purchasing: • Source and acquire essential mining equipment, spare parts, consumables, fuels, chemicals, personal protective equipment (PPE), and services for mining operations. • Solicit, assess, and evaluate supplier quotations, tenders, and proposals. • Prepare and process purchase orders accurately through the procurement system. • Negotiate pricing, delivery schedules, payment terms, and service agreements for maximum value. • Ensure timely order placements to prevent operational interruptions.
Supplier Management: • Build and sustain strong relationships with suppliers and service providers. • Monitor supplier performance against agreed service levels, quality standards, and delivery commitments. • Participate in supplier evaluations, audits, and performance reviews. • Resolve supplier-related issues such as delivery delays, quality concerns, and contract disputes.
Inventory and Stock Control Support: • Collaborate with stores and warehouse personnel to maintain optimal inventory levels. • Monitor stock availability and reorder critical items to support continuous mining operations. • Identify slow-moving, obsolete, and excess stock and recommend corrective actions. • Work with operational departments to forecast procurement requirements.
Cost Management and Budget Control: • Identify cost-saving opportunities through strategic sourcing and supplier negotiations. • Ensure purchases align with approved budgets and procurement plans. • Track commodity and market trends that may impact procurement costs. • Contribute to annual budgeting and procurement planning processes.
Contract Administration: • Assist in the preparation, administration, and monitoring of supplier contracts. • Ensure contracts are adhered to by suppliers and internal stakeholders. • Monitor contract expiry dates and facilitate renewals as needed. • Maintain accurate contract records and documentation.
Compliance and Governance: • Ensure procurement activities comply with company policies, mining legislation, and regulatory requirements. • Maintain ethical procurement practices and avoid conflicts of interest. • Support internal and external audits by providing accurate procurement records. • Ensure compliance with BBBEE, local supplier development, and other applicable procurement requirements where relevant.
Stakeholder Engagement: • Liaise with engineering, maintenance, operations, finance, and project teams to understand procurement needs. • Provide procurement advice and support to internal customers. • Communicate order status, delivery schedules, and supply risks to relevant stakeholders. • Assist in resolving urgent operational procurement requirements.
Reporting and Administration: • Maintain accurate procurement records, supplier databases, and purchasing documentation. • Generate procurement reports relating to expenditure, supplier performance, savings, and purchasing activities. • Ensure all procurement transactions are correctly recorded and authorized. • Analyze purchasing data to support strategic decision-making.
Risk Management: • Identify and mitigate supply chain risks that may impact mining operations. • Develop alternative sourcing options for critical goods and services. • Monitor supplier financial stability and operational capability. • Participate in business continuity and emergency procurement planning.
Skills Required: • Must have experience working in the mining, drilling, and exploration industries. • Must possess knowledge and experience in round the hole and exploration drilling. • Candidate must be able to obtain competitive quotations from suppliers, negotiate prices, place orders, and arrange couriers and collections to ensure timely delivery of required items. • Knowledge of mining equipment. • Strong negotiation, communication, and organizational skills. • Proficient in computer literacy including email, Excel, and purchasing systems. • Experience arranging couriers, collections, and transport. • Ability to manage multiple orders and follow up on deliveries. • Skilled in sourcing suppliers for mining equipment, exploration drilling equipment, spare parts, and consumables. • Purchase mechanical parts, tools, and equipment for servicing and repairing motor vehicles.
