Vacancy Details


Dis-Chem Pharmacies’ East Rand store is currently seeking a Dispensary Support to join our team. This role is designed to offer opportunities for learners completing the learner basic pharmacist assistant course, which will provide a comprehensive understanding of the pharmaceutical environment and practical on-the-job learning principles. The position is a Fixed Term contract until learners are registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as learner basic assistants. Permanent employment will only be offered once qualified as a basic pharmacist assistant.


Minimum Requirements…Essential: Grade 12 – Matric or a Senior Certificate with Pure Mathematics achieving 50%, and Life Science or Physical Science with an average of at least 50%


Job Specification


Dispensary Support staff must successfully complete a proficiency test to apply for registration with the Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as a learner basic assistant. The duties of a pharmacist's assistant registered as a learner basic assistant include:


  • Selling Schedule 1 medicines or scheduled substances under the direct supervision of a pharmacist. - Assisting with the compounding, manipulation, or preparation of non-sterile medicines or scheduled substances according to formulas and Standard Operating Procedures approved by the pharmacist. - Helping with the unpacking, merchandising, and cleaning of dispensary and over-the-counter shelves as approved by the pharmacist. - Performing any other duties assigned by the Dispensary Manager.

Learners will also be responsible for


  • Accurately interpreting prescriptions and acting professionally and responsibly within legal requirements set by the South African Pharmaceutical Council. - Ensuring the precise picking, packing, labeling, and checking of medications, and being aware of common dosages and important drug interactions. - Verifying all medications are checked for accuracy by a pharmacist and signed by a pharmacist. - Managing stock control, including maintaining cleanliness and organizing shelves and monitoring expiry dates of Schedule 1 to Schedule 5 medicines or scheduled substances. - Following up with patients regarding script tracking reports and dispensary appointments as requested by the dispensary manager. - Assisting with call center scripts and patient service telephone calls. - Providing health-promoting information to individuals. - Helping with the authorization of chronic, HIV and AIDS, and oncology medications. - Reporting low or out-of-stock levels and stock errors to the dispensary manager. - Receiving dispensary stock as per the company's SOP.

Competencies


Essential: - Proficiency in English and a second language, capable of reading, writing, and speaking. - Strong time management, deadline-driven, capable of handling pressure, and attention to detail. - Excellent communication skills, including listening, customer service focus, problem-solving, teamwork, conflict management, leading by example, accountability, professional conduct, trustworthiness, and honesty. - Competence in computer and numerical skills.


Advantageous: - Experience in Retail FMCG, Dis-Chem front shop, and a good performance record. - Knowledge of drug and family planning, complementary medicine. - Proficiency in 3rdUnisolv, SAP, and E-Scripting.


Special Conditions of Employment: - Successful completion of a proficiency test to register with the Pharmacy Council. - Must be a South African citizen. - Must have a clean criminal and credit history.
