National Asphalt, a leading supplier of asphalt in Southern Africa, is committed to quality, innovation, operational excellence, and sustainability. We manufacture a wide array of asphalt products and operate commercial and mobile asphalt plants throughout the country. We are currently seeking a dynamic and results-driven Plant Manager for our Cliffdale facility.


Purpose of the Role The Plant Manager is tasked with overseeing the efficient, safe, and profitable operation of the asphalt plant. The ideal candidate will lead all plant activities to meet production targets while maintaining the highest standards of cost control, employee safety, employee relations, product quality, and customer service.


Qualifications and Experience The successful candidate must possess a degree or diploma in Construction Management or Civil Engineering. A professional certification in Contracts Management is recommended, and registration with SACPCMP is advantageous. A minimum of 5-7 years' proven experience in a similar role within the Construction and Civil Engineering industry is required, with a strong focus on asphalt projects. Demonstrated experience in plant operations and production management is also necessary. Experience in the operation and maintenance of a concrete batching plant may be considered suitable. The ideal candidate should have strong communication skills, high attention to detail, and valid driver’s license and own vehicle. South African citizenship is preferred. Knowledge of Civil and Construction Regulations, Industrial Relations experience, strong leadership capability, emotional intelligence (EQ), excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, strong interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to multitask, prioritize effectively, and perform under pressure, and a high level of attention to detail are also essential.


Key Responsibilities The Plant Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing the day-to-day operations of the commercial Asphalt Plant to ensure optimal performance and productivity. The candidate will develop, implement, and monitor strategies to promote efficient, safe, and cost-effective operational practices. They must drive the production of high-quality asphalt products in line with capacity targets and customer demand requirements. Compliance with all health, safety, environmental, and legislative requirements, as well as company standards and policies, is mandatory. The Plant Manager must lead, supervise, and develop plant personnel, including performance management, training, and employee relations. They should maintain strong internal and external customer relationships, ensuring high levels of service delivery and responsiveness. The candidate should demonstrate effective self-management, accountability, and foster a culture of teamwork and collaboration within the plant.
