Tsebo Facilities Solutions seeks a skilled Carpenter to construct, maintain, restore, and repair top-tier wooden fixtures, furniture, fittings, and architectural elements throughout the property. This position requires a blend of advanced carpentry techniques and specialized French polishing and wood finishing abilities to guarantee that all guest and public areas adhere to the highest standards of aesthetics, safety, and functionality.

Duties & Responsibilities

French Polishing & Wood Finishing

• Restore and upkeep antique, custom-made, and modern wooden furniture and fittings. • Apply French polish, shellac, stains, lacquers, varnishes, oils, and waxes to attain superior finishes. • Repair scratches, watermarks, burns, dents, chips, and other surface imperfections. • Match wood grain, color, and finish to ensure cohesive restoration efforts. • Preserve the appearance and durability of all wooden items within the property.

Carpentry & Structural Maintenance

• Design, fabricate, install, and repair wooden structures, cabinetry, shelving, doors, frames, and fixtures. • Repair furniture and joinery components. Install and maintain locks, hinges, runners, handles, hydraulic arms, and related hardware. • Inspect wooden decks, flooring, cladding, boardwalks, and balustrades. • Interpret technical drawings, sketches, and specifications as needed. • Operate woodworking machinery and hand tools safely.

Maintenance Operations

• Address maintenance requests within stipulated service levels. • Carry out preventative and corrective maintenance tasks. • Maintain accurate maintenance records and job cards. • Monitor stock levels of timber, finishes, adhesives, and consumables. • Proactively report defects, risks, and replacement requirements.

Health, Safety & Compliance

• Adhere to all Occupational Health and Safety requirements. • Use personal protective equipment correctly. • Safely handle, store, and dispose of chemicals. • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workshop environment. • Ensure all work areas are hazard-free and fit for use.

Customer Service & Team Collaboration

• Operate professionally and discreetly in guest-facing areas. • Collaborate with Housekeeping, Operations, Interior Design, and Maintenance teams. • Minimize disruption to guests and operations during maintenance activities. • Uphold Tsebo service standards through quality workmanship and attention to detail.

Skills and Competencies

• Advanced skills in carpentry and joinery. • Expertise in French polishing and wood restoration. • Knowledge of timber species, finishes, stains, lacquers, varnishes, and adhesives. • Proficiency in using hand tools and power tools. • Ability to read basic drawings and specifications. • Maintenance troubleshooting and repair skills. • Understanding of health and safety requirements related to woodworking and finishing operations.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 / Matric Certificate. • Trade Test Certificate in Carpentry, Joinery, Cabinet Making, Furniture Making, or a related field is advantageous.

Experience

• Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in carpentry, joinery, shopfitting, or furniture manufacturing. • Demonstrated experience in French polishing and advanced wood restoration. • Experience within hospitality, hotels, resorts, lodges, or commercial facilities is advantageous.
