Mechanical Apprenticeship - x 2 (George)

The chosen candidate will receive hands-on training in mechanical engineering, maintenance, repairs, and the servicing of production machinery and equipment. The Mechanical Apprentice will collaborate with skilled artisans and maintenance personnel to ensure that machinery functions safely, efficiently, and reliably within the production environment.

Key Responsibilities

Mechanical Maintenance and Repairs

Support routine preventative maintenance and servicing of production machinery and equipment. Assist qualified artisans in the inspection, fault-finding, repair, and replacement of mechanical components. Learn to identify mechanical faults and report any equipment abnormalities to the relevant supervisor. Help with the dismantling, cleaning, repairing, assembling, and installation of mechanical components. Gain practical experience working with bearings, shafts, gears, belts, chains, pulleys, pumps, motors, and pneumatic systems. Assist with machinery adjustments and alignment under supervision.

Production and Equipment Support

Support maintenance teams during equipment breakdowns and scheduled maintenance activities. Assist in maintaining production machinery used in food-packaging operations. Help minimize machinery downtime by following maintenance instructions and reporting faults promptly. Ensure that tools, equipment, and work areas are kept clean, organized, and in good condition.

Health, Safety and Housekeeping

Adhere to all company health and safety policies, procedures, and applicable legal requirements. Always wear the required personal protective equipment (PPE). Follow machine isolation and lockout procedures as instructed by authorized personnel. Maintain good housekeeping in the workshop and production areas. Follow applicable hygiene and food-safety requirements when working in production areas.

Qualifications

Preferred Grade 12, though not essential Fluent in English and Afrikaans Technical N1/N2 or N3 in a technical field Driver’s License
