Recruitpro Solutions is currently seeking a skilled design office manager for a reputable manufacturer of mineral processing and heavy fabricated equipment. Our client operates on a global scale, serving the mining industry both locally and internationally. We are looking for an experienced leader with a strong background in innovation, product development, and manufacturing excellence. The ideal candidate should have robust technical expertise combined with extensive leadership experience and a practical grasp of heavy engineering and mineral processing equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities

Design Office Leadership Oversee and manage the design office operations, ensuring efficient resource planning, drawing scheduling, and workload allocation. Preside over design reviews and establish CAD standards, document control, and engineering workflows. Administer Autodesk Vault and ensure effective revision control throughout the drawing office. Promote design automation, standardization, and continuous improvement. Mentor, coach, and develop designers and draughtspersons, and manage team performance.

Engineering Design Lead the design of heavy fabricated and mineral processing equipment. Create plant layouts and modular plant designs. Supervise structural steel detailing, sheet metal, and platework design, as well as piping design and routing. Apply sound mechanical design principles along with Design for Manufacture, Design for Assembly, and Design for Maintainability. Ensure designs adhere to welding and fabrication practices, machining limitations, surface treatment, assembly, and quality requirements.

Engineering Documentation Compile and review general arrangement, detail, assembly, and manufacturing drawings. Prepare plant layouts, bills of materials, mechanical equipment lists, drawing registers, technical datasheets, and manufacturing data packs. Support Factory Acceptance Testing and address design queries from the workshop floor.

Collaboration and Stakeholder Management Coordinate with engineering, production, projects, and procurement teams to align design output with manufacturing capabilities and project timelines. Manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including clients and suppliers. Travel to manufacturing facilities and project sites as necessary.

Experience and Qualifications Bachelor of Engineering, Bachelor of Technology, or National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent. Minimum of 8 to 10 years' experience in mechanical design within mining, mineral processing, heavy engineering, or industrial manufacturing. Minimum of 3 to 5 years' experience in leading a design office, engineering design team, or drawing office. Advanced proficiency in Autodesk Inventor Professional, Autodesk Vault Professional, AutoCAD, and the Microsoft Office suite. Strong understanding of workshop fabrication processes, platework and structural fabrication, welding processes, machining limitations, surface treatment and painting, assembly practice, quality control, and Factory Acceptance Testing. Proven ability in technical leadership, coaching, mentoring, and performance management. Strong communication, planning and organizing, decision making, problem solving, and conflict resolution skills. Valid driver's license and willingness to travel.
