Our client, a leader in the industry, is currently seeking an experienced Estimator – Substations to bolster its Transmission and Distribution team. This role is perfect for a commercially savvy professional with a robust technical background and substantial experience in preparing competitive cost estimates for high-voltage and medium-voltage substation projects. The chosen candidate will be instrumental in tender preparation, cost modeling, risk assessment, and commercial bid support throughout South Africa and beyond.
Key Responsibilities: - Craft comprehensive cost estimates for high-voltage and medium-voltage substation projects. - Scrutinize tender documentation, electrical drawings, technical specifications, Bills of Quantities (BOQs), and customer requirements. - Calculate costs associated with materials, labor, equipment, plant, and subcontractors. - Prepare and compile pricing schedules, tender submissions, and commercial proposals. - Review engineering designs to identify gaps, technical risks, and cost-saving opportunities. - Collaborate with engineering teams to clarify technical requirements and assess alternative construction methodologies. - Formulate pricing strategies, contingencies, bid assumptions, and tender qualifications. - Obtain and evaluate quotations from suppliers and subcontractors. - Maintain estimating databases and historical cost information. - Prepare tender reports, present recommendations to management, and support bid clarification meetings. - Assist with contract reviews, tender negotiations, and project handovers following successful awards.
Minimum Requirements: - A diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or a related field. - 5–10 years of estimating experience within the electrical, transmission, distribution, or construction sector. - Proven track record in estimating HV and MV substation projects. - Strong grasp of EPC, construction, and project costing principles. - Ability to interpret electrical drawings, technical specifications, and BOQs. - Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and estimating software.
