We are seeking an experienced and strategic Head of Electrical Engineering to lead the engineering function within a fast-growing solar energy company based in Somerset West. This role is responsible for overseeing the design, implementation, and optimisation of solar energy systems, while leading a high-performing engineering team and ensuring technical excellence across all projects.

REQUIREMENTSMinimum Requirements (Non-Negotiable) BEng/BSc in Electrical Engineering8–10+ years’ experience in renewable energyStrong Solar PV design experience (C&I and/or utility-scale)Proven leadership of engineering teamsSolid understanding of BESS integrationKnowledge of SA grid code, NRS, and SSEG requirementsProficiency in tools such as PVSyst / Helioscope / AutoCADAdvantageousECSA (Pr Eng) registrationEPC environment experienceHybrid systems (PV + BESS + generators)Techno-economic / financial modelling
DUTIESLead and manage the engineering teamOwn system design across PV and BESSEnsure bankable, compliant, and optimised designsDrive engineering standards, processes, and continuous improvementSupport project delivery, tenders, and technical decision-makingInterface with clients, utilities, and regulatory bodies Key Competencies Strong technical authority with leadership capabilityCommercially aware and solutions-drivenAble to balance design optimisation with project realitiesComfortable in a high-performance, delivery-focused environmentRequires regular travel to project sites across South Africa (and occasionally Africa)
